International Girls in ICT Day 2026 celebrated by Dept. of ICE, RU

The ‘International Girls in ICT Day 2026’ was observed today at University of Rajshahi with the goal of promoting greater participation of women in the information and communication technology sector.

To mark the occasion, the Department of Information and Communication Engineering (ICE) at the university arranged a full-day program. The event was held at the Jamal Nazrul Islam Science Building under the theme ‘AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future.’

The theme emphasizes the growing importance of increasing female involvement in STEM fields and technology, particularly encouraging girls to take leadership roles and drive innovation in the age of artificial intelligence.

The program was officially inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Faridul Islam as the chief guest. Among those present were the department’s Chairman Professor Halida Homayra, Controller of Examinations Professor Hasnat Kabir, Central Cafeteria Administrator Professor Aurangzeb Abdur Rahman, Director of the Office of International Affairs Professor Muhammad Sajjadur Rahim, along with faculty members and students.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted that women’s active engagement is vital for developing a technology-oriented Bangladesh. He also stressed that empowering girls in the ICT sector is key to national progress and encouraged students to cultivate innovation and prioritize research.

The day-long program featured various activities, including a programming contest, ICT Olympiad, seminar sessions, idea presentations, and project exhibitions.


The event was organized by the ICE Association with support from the IEEE Bangladesh Section, IEEE WIE AG BDS, IEEE RU WIE AG, and the IEEE RU Student Branch.
