RAJSHAHI, BANGLADESH – On May 21, 2026, the Department of Social Work at the University of Rajshahi successfully organized a comprehensive field visit for BSS 1st Year, 2nd Semester students. The visit took place at the headquarters of the Shapla Gram Unnayan Sangstha (Shapla NGO), a prominent development organization in the region.
The academic delegation, consisting of 31 students, was led by Professor Dr. Muhammad Zamilur Rahman and Md. Abdul Mazid. The initiative aimed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical social work application.
Professor Dr. Golam Kibria Ferdous, Chairman of the Department of Social Work, attended the program as the Chief Guest. During the visit, students engaged in high-level discussions with Md. Mohsin Ali, the CEO and Founder of Shapla NGO, who provided an in-depth look at the organization’s history and its impact on rural development.
Throughout the day, students were briefed on the NGO’s diverse service areas, ongoing social programs, and the operational challenges faced by non-governmental organizations in the current socio-economic landscape of Bangladesh. This hands-on experience provided the students with critical insights into community service delivery and the complexities of the NGO sector.
“This field visit served as a vital learning platform,” noted the department leadership. “By observing these programs in action, our students are better prepared to understand the professional realities of social work.”
The Department of Social Work continues to prioritize experiential learning to ensure its graduates are equipped with the practical knowledge necessary for their future careers.
