The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management is a newly established department at University of Rajshahi. Currently, there are 100 students in the department. The students have come from all corners of the country, each having a different family background. The department is very focused towards the students and their families. It has great aspiration for serving the students and community even despite its financial constraint. For example, there is a “Students Empowerment and Protection Program” in the department. This is an ongoing program and the main objective of this program is to empower meritorious but financially deficit students through different financial and non-financial program and to protect them from adverse situations.

Under Students Empowerment and Protection Program the department has raised a Welfare Fund with the heartiest cooperation of parents, teachers, non-academic staff and above all existing students. The remarkable initiatives are mentioned below-

1. At present the whole world is struggling with COVID-19. In such situation, Chairman of the Department has taken an initiative to support the families of students who are going through rough times but are unable to express it to others due to social stigma. The department has identified a countable number of student’s family who need emergency financial support. In the meantime, the department has started financial backing to the families which have been identified as those requiring assistance and will continue to do so until the present situation improves.

2. The department also supports students who are not able to pay tuition fees at the time of form fill up and admission in each academic year.

3. Department of THM has a student counseling wing through which teachers provide need based counseling services to the students.

4. The department is also helping people of low income group who are working as helping hands in campus restaurant, shops, dormitory etc. These people are directly related with on campus students’ service.

As a new department we have limitation of fund for which we face difficulties to run different community service programs. Thus, the department of THM welcomes benevolent persons who want to donate in the welfare fund of the department.
