Research Facilities
The Department has a long tradition of research in various areas of Geology and Mining under the MS, MPhil and PhD programs within its limited resources. Currently, the Department has 18 academic members with a wide range of research interest and expertise such as Hydrogeology, Sedimentology, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining, Geological Mapping, Remote Sensing, Petrology, Mineralogy, Petroleum Geology etc. The Department enrolls 60 undergraduate students in each academic year and out of those who graduated goes to the MSc program.
The Department provides necessary facilities of practical works and research on Mineralogy, Petrography, Sedimentology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining, Geological and Geohazards Mapping, Micropaleontology and Palynology, Remote Sensing and GIS, Petroleum Geology, Quaternary and Environmental Mapping etc.
To undertake collaborative research and lab works, the department has links with other departments and institutions such as the Geological Survey of Bangladesh, Petrobangla, Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (BAPEX), Bangladesh Gas Field Company Ltd. (BGFCL) and other gas companies, Coal and Hard Rock Mining Companies (Barapukuria Coal, Madhapara Granite Mine, Khalaspir Coal Field, Phulbari Coal Field), Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), Institute of Mining, Mineralogy and Metallurgy (IMMM), BCSIR; Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC); Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), Institute of Water Modeling (IWM); Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Department of Environments (DoE), Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA), Bangladesh Mineral Development Corporation, Energy Regulatory Board, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, and many NGOs related to geological sciences. The Department also maintains relation with geology and related departments of other universities, home and abroad
