IJSS Volume 17 has been published in December, 2019. Volumes 18 and19 are virtually ready for publication. Volume 20(1) [March 2020 Issue] will also be published concurrently by June-July, 2020.

The Editorial Committee assures its Patrons, Reviewers, Contributors, Readers, Subscribers and Well-wishers continued satisfaction with the quality and regularity of the publication and expects whole-hearted co-operation from them in the implementation of this new publication policy.

Prof. Basher Mian started his exemplary teaching career as a Lecturer in the Department of Statistics, University of Rajshahi in 1974. Then he was promoted to Assistant professor in 1979, Associate Professor in 1990, and Professor in 1995. He also held the position of Professor at the Institute of Bangladesh Studies, RU from 2005 to 2006 and was a Director of the same Institute from 2006 to 2009. After his retirement as Professor from the Department of Statistics, RU in 2015, he joined as Director of “Global Public Health Research Foundation” in 2015. Prof Basher was the Executive Editor of IJSS from 2007 to 2013 (Vol 01- Vol 13). He has organized three International Seminars as Principal Organizer at Department of Statistics, RU. He also held many non-academic positions at RU and membership of many welfare organizations.

Prof. Basher was born in 1947 in Chandpur, Bangladesh. Prof. Basher was awarded Ph.D. Degree from Delhi University for his doctoral work on “Life Testing Approach to Manpower and Related Models” in the Department of Statistics, Delhi University. He has published more than 30 papers in peer reviewed international journals and also four monograph reports. He has supervised seven Ph.D. students and seven M.Phil. students along with many MSc (Thesis) students.

Prof. Basher was also a freedom fighter and always bears a positive and constructive thinking for the improvement of teaching and research in the area of statistics. Professor Dr. Md. Abul Basher Mian is currently the Director of “Global Public Health Research Foundation”, Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Department of Statistics and the Editorial Board of IJSS take pride in honoring a veteran teacher and organizer Dr Basher Mian. His organizational skill in holding Int’l Seminars/Conferences has been amply rewarded by participation of many well-known statisticians from different parts of the world, including the world-famous organizations like Indian Statistical Institute.

IJSS will publish a Felicitation Volume in honor of an extremely unassuming pleasant personality Professor Dr Md. Abul Basher Mian.

Prof. AHM Rahmatullah Imon and Prof. Rezaul Karim will serve as Guest Editors and Prof. Nurul Hauqe Mollah as will serve as the Co-Ordinating Editor of the proposed Special Volume which is expected to be released around December, 2020.
