Academic Vision

The institute endeavours to become a centre of excellence in language education by achieving international standards for English language teachers, creating an environment of multiculturalism and multilingualism, and offering internationally aligned instruction in seven other languages for meaningful participation in an interconnected world. It also seeks to strengthen learners with linguistic and communicative competency, while engendering a sense of analytical precision and intellectual growth. The Institute grounds itself in rigorous scholarship, and utilizes contemporary ideas and research relating to the domains of linguistics and pedagogy in order to promote and create a favourable environment for intercultural dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration.

academic Mission

1. To produce knowledgeable and skilled English language teachers for Bangladesh and international markets, and graduates with strong command of English language skills and sound linguistic knowledge for professional excellence by offering one year and two year MA in ELT and Diploma programmes in ELT.

2. To enhance proficiency in the English language of teachers and students alike by offering them preparatory courses for IELTS and TOEFL.

3. To promote knowledge and skills in other major foreign languages among graduates for effective functioning in multilingual and multicultural academic and professional settings by offering certificates/diploma courses in those major foreign languages.

4. To contribute to manpower export by developing communicative competence and professional skills in major foreign languages by way of the courses offered by the Institute.

5. To enhance foreign language proficiency of officers and employees (especially police officers) working in UN missions overseas through the offered language courses.

6. To facilitate advanced research and scholarly activities in language education by offering MPhil and PhD degrees.

7. To teach the language course(s) offered by the various departments under the different faculties of the university.
