Institute of English and Other Languages at Rajshahi University began its journey in 2015. One of its primary academic objectives is to teach compulsory English courses in different departments of this University. The Institute also runs One Year and Two Year MA programmes in English Language Teaching (ELT) as well as Certificate Courses in various languages including English, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Korean and Arabic. There is also an Intensive Bangla Language course for foreigners. Apart from these courses the Institute focuses too on interdisciplinary researches traversing diverse domains of Language, Literature and Culture.

A language automatically refers to a community that speaks that language; and also, as we know, a language is carrier of a culture. Thus learning a language has always wider significance. It is not only about acquiring a mere professional skill that creates possibilities of placement at home and abroad rather it is also about being able to engage with different cultures and communities through which an individual achieves some valuable lessons and orientations in life: the lesson of tolerance and accommodation, of how to coexist with others who are different from them. Our vision is to produce individuals with impressive language efficiency while at the same time inculcate these precious values within them through all our teaching and research endeavours at the Institute.
