Thursday, 25 June 2026: Professor Ahmed Bashir, the current President of Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA), and a Professor of the Department of English, University of Dhaka, led an interactive session on ELT with the current students of ELT at the Institute of English and Other Languages. The session was chaired by the Director of the Institute, Dr. Maswood Akhter, and moderated by Dr. Sharmin Akhter (Associate Professor, IEOL).

Professor Ahmed Bashir’s presentation was centered on the growth of ELT as a discipline and a field of research in the country, beginning with tracing its developing history in the European climates. He also focused on the constant evolution of ELT, deliberating on how new methodologies, technologies, and pedagogical approaches continually reshape the way the language is taught. After his presentation, an open ended Q&A session took place, and the students of the institute chimed in with their queries and concerns. Ms. Sakiba Ferdousy, his research partner and spouse, also briefly participated in the discussion and Q&A session.
