About The Department of Banking and Insurance

The Department of Banking and Insurance began its journey in 2014 with a vision of uncompromised commitment to academic excellence to deliver dynamic, resilient and skilled human resources in banking & insurance sector. We emphasize on building business leaders of tomorrow and our endeavor is to keep a balance between the education we impart and what the industry requires. The department offers Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration for the regular students. For professionals, the department also offers MBA (Evening) degree programs for business and non-business students. There are about 350 students in the department of which 300 are in the BBA program, and about 50 are in the MBA program. Presently, there are twelve faculty members and four academic staffs in the department who work collaboratively to ensure quality education and student support.

The classrooms are well-furnished, fully air-conditioned, and supported by multimedia projectors, smart boards, and sound systems to facilitate interactive lectures, presentations, and case study discussions. The computer lab is equipped with updated software and internet facilities, allowing students to analyze capital market trends, practice financial modeling, and engage in simulation-based learning.

Beyond academics, the Department of Banking and Insurance actively promotes co-curricular and cultural engagement to ensure the holistic development of students. The department regularly organizes seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and industry talks featuring bankers, insurance professionals, and corporate leaders to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Various cultural programs such as fresher’s reception, farewell ceremonies, study tours, and cultural festivals are arranged throughout the year. Students also participate in sports events, and social responsibility initiatives, fostering teamwork, leadership, creativity, and communication skills. Through these academic and cultural activities, the department creates a vibrant learning environment that supports both professional competence and personal growth.

Mission of the Department

The mission of the department of Banking and Insurance is to encourage quality education and training in Banking and Insurance discipline. This mission will be achieved by imparting world class education and providing research facilities so that the students can achieve their intellectual, social, and personal potentials.

Facilities of the Department

  • Computer Lab

The Department has a well-decorated computer lab with Internet facilities. The BBA program offers some courses that require lab facilities to cope with the increasing use of technologies in Banking industry. Computer lab is mostly developed and managed by the subscriptions and contributions from the students and development fund provided by University Grant Commission(UGC).

  • Seminar

The Department arranges seminar on selective topics, invites renowned academicians guest speakers and discussants. It helps students to get the academic exposure currently offering by other universities home and abroad. Apart from this, interaction with distinctive professionals bring the opportunity to know the dynamic nature of the Banking and Insurance industries.

  • Student Counseling

Teachers are sincere to solve the student’s academic problems. Intensive care needed for any particular subject is provided through counseling. Such counseling provides them the extra knowledge and guidance they needed outside classroom. Counseling also helps to develop sound teacher-student relationship and academic atmosphere in the department.

Extra-curricular Activities of the Department

  • Study Tour/ Industrial Visit

The Department arranges study tour within Bangladesh and abroad for the MBA students each year. It helps them to feel the vastness of the sea, difficulty of summiting hills, and the amazing demographic differences. This tour works as an orientation with the world outside the classroom that is going to be their workplace very soon.

  • Picnic

Every year, students organize annual picnic. All the students of the Department of Banking and Insurance participate here. One or more teachers are assigned to monitor the students and instruct them with all the suggestions needed. This event creates the opportunities as well to learn management skills needed for leadership.

  • Students Association

There is a student association in the department named Rajshahi University Banking and Insurance Forum (RUBIF)). All students of the Department are the members of this forum. RUBIF regularly organizes orientation for the newly admitted BBA students and fare-well for the outgoing MBA students.
