Shahid Mir Abdul Quayyum International Dormitory

Mir Abdul Quayyum was a Bangladeshi Psychologist who was killed in the Bangladesh Liberation war and is considered an intellectual martyr in Bangladesh. Mir Abdul Quayyum was born in Ghagra, Gaffargaon, Mymensingh on 06 July 1939. He obtained graduation from Annanda Mohan College in 1960 and did MA degree in Psychology from University ofRajshahiin 1962. Mr. Quayyum joined as Lecturer in the Department of Psychology, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh in 1966. Mir Abdul Quayyum was arrested by Pakistan Army on 25 November 1971, killed and buried alive along with others by Pakistan Army in Liberation war.

The University of Rajshahi was built a Dormitory and started its journey officially on 01 March 2010 namely Shahid Mir Abdul Quayyum Dormitory for the honor of Shahid Mir Abdul Quayyum. The dormitory was renamed as Shahid Mir Abdul Quayyum Post Graduate Dormitory on 05 March 2011 and finally renamed as Shahid Mir Abdul Quayyum International Dormitory on 24 December 2013.Usually the international dormitory is resident for foreign students studied in University of Rajshahi. Moreover, the MPhil/PhD fellows from home and abroadare also allowed for residence in the Dormitory now. The four storied building has total 128 rooms; 104 rooms are well furnished for students and 16 rooms are using as guest room. The well decorated guest rooms are rented to the visitors affiliated works in the University of Rajshahi. The Dormitory is facilitated with dining room, common room and a prayer room. Moreover, there is a badminton play ground in front of the Dormitory. Dormitory has twenty four hours surveillance security system with close circuit camera (CCTV) coverage. There are gardens in site and out site of the Dormitory which are planted by different types of seasonal flowers, ornamental plants and others. A good number of students from Nepal, Somalia, Jordan and the USA are studied in University of Rajshahi and enjoying residence at the Shahid Mir Abdul Quayyum International Dormitory.
