Welcome to the Department of Islamic Studies, University of Rajshahi.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to one of the leading academic departments dedicated to the study and advancement of Islamic knowledge. Since its inception in the 1981–1982 academic session under the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, and later as an independent department, the Department of Islamic Studies has remained committed to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.

Our department offers B.A. (Honours), M.A., MPhil., and PhD programs designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Islam and its relevance to contemporary society. We strive to integrate classical Islamic scholarship with modern academic disciplines, enabling our graduates to meet the intellectual and professional challenges of the modern world.

The curriculum of the department encompasses a wide range of subjects, including the Qur’an, Hadith, Tafsir, Islamic Daw’ah, Islamic Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, History, Comparative Religion, Banking and Insurance, Ethics, Bangladesh Studies, the Modern Muslim World, Islamic History & Civilization, and Culture. Through this multidisciplinary approach, we aim to develop knowledgeable, skilled, and ethically responsible graduates who can contribute meaningfully to society.

Our faculty members are dedicated to fostering critical thinking, academic excellence, and moral integrity among students. We encourage research and intellectual inquiry that address contemporary issues while remaining rooted in the rich heritage of Islamic scholarship.

As Bangladesh continues its journey toward sustainable development and global engagement, the need for competent professionals with sound moral values and a deep understanding of Islamic principles has become increasingly important. The Department of Islamic Studies is committed to producing such graduates who can serve effectively in education, research, public administration, financial institutions, social development organizations, and various government and non-government sectors.
