Message from Chairman
The Department of Geology and Mining started functioning in 1975 with the prime aim of providing trained geoscientists to be engaged in the profession of geosciences, geological mapping, surveying, exploration, mining, production and management of country’s mineral and other resources.
The Department offers graduate and postgraduate degrees to the deserving students and is regarded as the pioneer in the field of Earth sciences in the region. It is contributing in exploring the natural resources of the country. The northern part is regarded as the mining province of Bangladesh and the department of Geology and Mining is adding it’s part in developing this mining province.
The research works of Geoscientists of this department are related largely with the groundwater problems, natural hazard problems (like flood, landslide, and earthquake) and mineral resource development.
This Department remains one of the largest academia in the country that offers state-of-the-art geosciences and mining education.
The Department currently offers degrees in Bachelor of Science (Honor’s), Master of Science (MS), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Geology and Mining.
The Department has total space of 2304 sq. meters including Hallway (555 sq. meters), Faculty Offices (358 sq. meters), Five Class Rooms (578 sq. meters) that accommodate about 300 students, Chairman Office (27 sq. meters), Departmental Office (54 sq. meters), Store (42 sq. meters), Five Laboratories (256 sq. meters), Computer Labs (81 sq. meters), Seminar Library (88 sq. meters), Conference Room (83 sq. meters), Museum (131 sq. meters), and Five washrooms (61 sq. meters) for teachers, officers and male and female students.
