Director’s Message

The University of Rajshahi has been utilizing the MIFARE DESFire EV1 (8K) contactless smart card since 2013 under the Smart ID Card Project, initiated by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. In accordance with the resolution adopted at the 543rd Syndicate meeting, the distribution and management of the university’s smart card system have been officially entrusted to the Smart ID Card Cell, effective from October 2025.

The MIFARE DESFire EV1 (8K) card incorporates AES-128 encryption, rapid mutual authentication, a multi-application file structure, and 8 KB of secure memory. These capabilities ensure robust identity verification, advanced data protection, and strong resistance to cloning and unauthorized access. Its sophisticated architecture supports multiple independent services on a single card while maintaining high performance and scalability.

Currently, the smart card system is integrated with the University Medical Center, automated student identity verification processes, and secure banking services, enabling authenticated transactions and service access for students. These deployments illustrate the reliability, resilience, and expandability of the platform across both administrative and service domains.

Looking forward, the Smart ID Card Cell is working to extend the system toward a fully cashless campus ecosystem—enabling digital payments and authenticated access across canteens, transportation, residence halls, libraries, and other university facilities. Planned advancements also include automated attendance systems, enhanced campus access control, and seamless integration with future academic and administrative automation modules.

We remain firmly committed to continuous innovation and the development of a secure, efficient, and technologically advanced smart campus environment for the University of Rajshahi.
