In view of the tremendous development of research on biological science in advanced countries and under the pressing demand of coordinated research on different aspects of biological fields, the National Planning Commission, People's Republic of Bangladesh felt the necessity to establish the Institute of Biological Sciences to promote and provide facilities of higher studies and coordinated researches on biological fields under the University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
The Institute of Biological Sciences was established in 1989. The Institute pursues research and capacity development in the field of Biological Sciences and Agriculture that is vital for economic development and social prosperity of the country.
