Fifty years have already passed since formal teaching-learning in sociology first began at University of Rajshahi (1964-2014), which certainly is a matter of great pride and joy for all those who were\/are related with the Department of Sociology since its inception. I am very much delighted on this occasion as an alumna and faculty member and Chairman of this department. In order to celebrate this glorious event, the Department of Sociology and the Rajshahi University Sociology Alumni Association (RUSAA) have jointly organized the Golden Jubilee Programme and 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0<\/span>Biennial RUSAA Conference to be held on 25-26 February, 2016. On the eve of this grand celebration, I congratulate and felicitate all teachers, students, administrators, officers and other employees who have contributed to the development of this well-established department. At this memorable moment, Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin, a brilliant alumnus and senior professor of our department is the esteemed sitting Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajshahi and Professor Nilufar Sultana\u2014a senior teacher of our department is the current Dean of Social Science. These have increased our joy and happiness manifold.<\/p>\n

Today, the Department of Sociology has gained the status of a well-recognized and renowned department of the University of Rajshahi. Many brilliant alumni\/former teachers of this department had\/have excelled as teachers in many internationally reputed educational institutions\u2014both at home and abroad, high officials in the administration, apt researchers in national\/international research agencies and different organizations under the United Nations. Some of our alumni have become successful entrepreneurs. Two of our former teachers Professor Abdul Quadir Bhuiyan and Professor A.H.M. Zehadul Karim held the position of Vice Chancellor at Khulna University and Comilla University respectively. Prior to Professor Nilufar Sultana three other faculty members of this department\u2014Professor Dr. F. R. Khan, Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin and Professor Dr. A. H. M. Zehadul Karim held the same position for different periods. Teachers of this department have achieved higher degrees and trainings from internationally reputed universities in Bangladesh and abroad; have established links with other universities of the world; were selected for sub-projects under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) three years in a row and have been recognized for their quality and efficiency in research activities. Keeping pace with the ever changing world, the current and future teachers and students of this department will prove their merit in acquiring and applying sociological knowledge\u2014this is my earnest hope and desire.<\/p>\n

Since the very inception of our department, we have lost a number of teachers, students, officers and employees for ever. On this occasion of celebrating our Golden Jubilee we humbly express our heartfelt gratitude to them for their contribution towards the development of this department and pray for the salvation of the departed souls.<\/p>\n

Let the Golden Jubilee be an occasion of sweet reminiscence and of self-realization. Let this grand meet be a juncture of making strong commitments to build a prosperous future where we all will be working towards the welfare and development of our country, our nation, and of humanity as a whole.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
