Message from Chairman<\/h2>\n

The Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in the oldest and the largest department in Applied Chemical Science Education in Bangladesh. Applied Chemistry as a department was established first in 1967 under the leadership of Professor Dr. Fazlul Halim Chowdhury. This visionary academic leader was the founding head of the newly formed department. Later on he became Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University. In response to the demand of time in 1988 this department was made Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology incorporating more technological fields in the curricula. Finally the department was transformed to Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2010. This is a unique institution where equal emphasis has given to both Applied Chemical Science and Chemical Engineering education. As a result, the department provides widespread job opportunities for graduates in diversified and vast fields applied chemistry and chemical Engineering. These include polymer, textile, pharmaceutical, chemical, food agriculture, cosmetic, ceramic and metallic industries, and electronic, energy and environmental fields and applied chemical science education.<\/p>\n

The objective of the department is to provide education and research from the fundamental level to the most recent applied fields of chemical science. The department provides training on the production of chemicals and chemical commodities from experimental level to industrial scale of today\u2019s use, and their safe handling, information literacy, experimental techniques and operation of analytical instruments. Consequently, students gain abilities not only to solve the specialized technological problems, but also function effectively as a general chemical technologist after graduation. The department is active in producing chemists with technological and engineering specialization who are being employed in various chemical process industries at home and abroad.<\/p>\n

The department has 4-year (8-Semester) B. Sc. in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering program, 1.5-year (3-Semester) M.Sc. and M. Engineering programs, and M. Phil and Ph.D. Programs. Well qualified and highly trained academic staffs are engaged in world class teaching and research in various fields of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The department frequently arranges workshop and seminars with alumni and renowned specialists. The department is always vibrant with extracurricular activities such as sports, games, debates and cultural activities. We are optimistic to uplift this department to the topmost position in Applied Chemical Science education in south Asia in the shortest possible time.<\/p>\n
