Development of Curriculam


In the three-year Honours Programme and one-year Master’s Prgramme, students required to complete eight and four courses respectively. Besides, they had to take two subsidiary subjects during graduate level. The courses introduced at that time were Principle of Sociology, Social Anthropology, Social Structure of Bangladesh, Rural and Urban Sociology, Family and Population, Statistics, and Social Psychology at graduate level and Modern Sociological Theory, Social Stratification, Criminology and Population Problems. From 1996, an integrated system of 1200 marks was introduced so that students do not have to take subsidiary subjects. In 1996, four-year Honours Programme was introduced with 23 courses totaling 2500 marks. From 2005-2006 session the required marks increased to 3000. An uniform grade system was introduced fron the session 2007-2008. Since then the compulsory and optional courses began to cover a wide range of areas. Under the new Ordinance for Master’s Programme from the session 2001-2002, Master’s students are now required to take five courses with the option for a Thesis work.
