Rajshahi University Computer Center
Rajshahi University Computer Center
(RUCC) was established in July 1985 in the First Science Building with terminal
based Alpha Micro1000E model, in order to accelerate research facilities for
faculty, staff and students. Professor Arun Kumar Basak,
Department of Physics was the founder Administrator of the Center. The Computer
Center has developed gradually during the last two decades. In 1989, some PC XT
were bought for the Center. Eventually upgraded PCs (such as 286, 386, 486, PENTIUM)
were added to improve user friendliness.
Looking for a better solution, the University then decided to install the Fiber Optic Network System. The project was materialized in 1999 funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology while Professor Raquib Ahmed, Department of Geography and Environmental Studies was the administrator. At present the total length of Optical Fiber Network is about 10 kilometers.
On August 29, 2002 VSAT was installed by SingTel Satellite Company, Singapore in order to meet the growing need of internet service while Professor Md. Abdul Aziz Miah, Department of Applied Physics and Electronic Engineering was the administrator. The downlink speed was 512 kbps and uplink speed was 128 kbps.
Apart from the existing line, Broadband Internet connection from the then BTTB has been added with a speed of 512 kbps on August 06, 2006 when Professor Md. Asaduzzaman Shah was the administrator. At the end of November 2006 Singtel link was disconnected, then bandwidth from the then BTTB was raised by 1Mbps in accordance with the demands of the users.
On September
27, 2006 the faculty of Agriculture and Department of Fine Arts have been connected
extending the existing fiber optical network which are located around one
kilometer north from the Computer Center.
On October 16, 2008 the internet speed was increased to 2 Mbps during Professor Md. Badrul Islam (administrator), Department of Geology and Mining.
The optical fiber network is further extended (in total 1.6 kilometer in lenth) to Second Admistrative Building and Fourth Science Building (on October 30, 2008), and Fourth Arts Building (on April 15, 2009).
Students, Teachers, Officers, of Rajshahi University are enjoying the Supper Highway network of 34 Mbps bandwidth.
Any suggestions are welcome.
