Overview

Admission to M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degree Programme

The Institute admits to the M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programmes on a competitive basis. A student is selected for admission on the basis of past academic records and performance in the admission test, both written and oral. The IBS prefers students who are specially interested in research or who are already in the teaching profession, so that after finishing their degree programmes successfully, they can continue to serve their respective institutions effectively. The admission process begins in early January with invitation of applications and the tests are held in April/May every year.

Candidates must have Hounours and Master degrees in Arts, Social Science, Law, Business Studies and any other subject related with life, society, culture, environment and development of Bangladesh inclusive of statistics, psychology, geography, population science and human resource development may also be considered eligible for admission test. Admitted Fellows are to pay admission, tuition, registration and examination fees as required under the Act of Rajshahi University.

M.Phil Programme

1.      Candidates must secure at least

(a) Second Division/GPA 3.00 in both SSC and HSC examinations.

(b)   55% marks/GPA 3.25 in degree honours and 50% marks/GPA 3.00 in Masters final examination or 50% marks/GPA 3.00 in degree honours and 55% marks/GPA 3.25 in masters final examination

OR

(c)   55% marks/ equivalent GPA in MBBS/ BDS/ DVM/MSc(Engg)/ M.Ag/Bachellor of Unani/ Ayurvedic Medicine and surgery/equivalent degrees.

2.      Candidates not satisfying either of the conditions in 1(b) may be considered for admission if she/he has 2 research publications in recognized journal(s) and 3 years. teaching experience at degree level or 4 years. research experience. Third division/class/GPA below-2.5 at any stage of academic carrier will disqualify a candidate for admission.

Ph.D. Programme

1.      Candidates must have (a) M.Phil./equivalent degree.

OR

b) Qualifications for admission into M.Phil. programme and UGC/Govt./Autonomous body awarded fellowship for Ph.D. program.

OR

c) 3 publications in recognized journal(s) with 5 years teaching experience at degree level or 6 years. research experience for those not satisfying one of the requirements given in 1(b). Third division/class/GPA below 2.5 at any stage of academic carrier will disqualify a candidate for admission.
