Department of Fisheries, University of Rajshahi celebrated its 10 years on October 23, 2010. Dr. Hossain, Chairman of the Department of Fisheries has played role as coordinator to organize the celebratory activities which included the inaugural session at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium, colorfull rally at RU campus, a seminar on "Fisheries Activities in Northern Bangladesh: Sustainable Livelihood and Climate Change Aspects" at Senate Bhaban, a climate change hearing session by the farmers including rememberance session by the students and teachers at the Agriculture Faculty Building and a climate change focused cultural program at the auditorium. >> more photos |

Dr. Hossain presided over the the technical session in the final workshop on Community Based Fish Culture in Seasonal Floodplains in Bangladesh at Rajshahi Chambers of Commerce and Industries on March 29, 2010 organized by the WorldFish Center, Bangladesh and South Asia Office. In addition to the effort for the development of floodplain aquaculture, Dr. Hossain focused other contributions in aquaculture especially at Greater Rajshahi area by WorldFish Center. Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain delivered keynote speech in a national seminar organized by Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) at Begum Rokeya Auditorium (RDRS, Rangpur) on August 02, 2009. He explored fisheries resources and aquaculture potentials, climate change aspects and promising technologies for the poor and marginal farmers in northwestern Bangladesh. He also emphasized for conducting need based regional research and aquaculture technologies appropriate for the marginal farmers in this zone. |
