An Overview

The Department of Applied Mathematics started fuctioning in 2002. Before that the Mathematics department was divided into two streams in 1972, (i) Applied Mathematics and (ii)Pure Mathematics.
Applied Mathematics has wide application in every branch of science . It has also many applications in Business studies, Economics, social science and other fields as well. Students with degrees in Applied Mathematics have opportunities in getting jobs in different fields, some of which are stated below for information of the students; All Govt. and private Colleges, Engineering and technical Universies,Technical Institutes, Science Laboratories, Atomic Energy Commission, Meteorological departments,etc.
The Department offers good teaching and research facilities. At present there are 12 teachers and 7 office staffs. The present enrolment of the student in the B.Sc.(Hons.) and M.Sc. classes is over 400. The department has its own seminar library with a large number of Textbooks, and Scientific Literatures. An well equipped Computer Lab was established in the department in 2004. The department offers four courses on computer programming at the undergraduate levels.
